Our Methodology
With over 50 years of experience working on projects from municipal improvement to projects for private residence, all the projects are important. In our initial consultation, the scope of your project will be determined, and we will agree upon the best plan of action to make sure you get what you need.
Our methods have been tuned over time to determine that no aspects of your project are missed.
Your Project Is Completed Using These Steps:
- Create and present the plan and estimate of the project
- Get availability of all contractors involved and adjust plan per feedback
- Inspect all relevant documents such as deeds and maps to deliver a quality outcome
- Perform topographic surveys to determine utility locations, grades, and drainage planning
- Communicate with utilities and other affected parties to coordinate the project
- Collect field information including GPS when needed
- Create a map of the field on a computer or by hand
- Organize all files and correspondence regarding each project

Background
Joseph Petito, owner and CEO ofJoseph M. Petito Land Surveying & Civil Engineering, PC (formerly O’Connor – Petito) was just selected as Top CEO of the Year in Land Surveying by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the field.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations, and contributions to their communities. All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.
With over three decades of professional experience in civil engineering and surveying fields, Joseph has certainly proven himself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. As a dynamic results-driven leader, Joseph has demonstrated success not only as a land surveyor and civil engineer but is also a successful entrepreneur who consults attorneys and makes courtroom appearances in hearings due to his expertise. His past work experience has also included working as an assistant office manager and party chief for a large firm.
Education
Joseph graduated Manhattanville College and has worked toward an MBA degree. Throughout his illustrious career, Joseph has been active in his community and has received awards, accolades’ and has been featured in several publications. For 2018, he is being considered for a feature in T.I.P (Top Industry Professionals) magazine and was named Top CEO of the Year in Land Surveying. For 2017, he was selected as Outstanding Professional of the Year by the Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni. He is a member of the NY State Association of Professional Land Surveyors, Long Island Association of Land Surveyors, American Congress of Surveying and Mapping, and the American Cartographic Association. The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami, stated that “Choosing Joseph for this award was an easy decision for our panel to make. He is brilliant at what he does, his list of accomplishments and accolades are beyond impressive, he is active in numerous organizations, he was exactly what we were looking for. We know we will be seeing more outstanding things from this man and hope to spend time with him at the gala.”
Looking back, Joseph attributes his success to his perseverance, mentors he has had along the way, and the support from his family. When he is not working, Joseph enjoys music, traveling, and spending time with his family. For the future, Joseph will continue to thrive as an entrepreneur and hopes to continue making a difference in people’s lives any way that he can.
Paul D. Barroca, P.E. (Director of Engineering)
Background
Mr. Barroca began his career working in a variety of construction fields including: surveying, architecture, masonry, concrete, electrical, carpentry, construction & demolition. Inspired by his family’s involvement in a multitude of construction trades, Mr. Barroca approaches design tasks from a “hands on” approach. With a career spanning over 30 years, Mr. Barroca has experience in drainage, hydraulics, water, sewer, site planning, structural and building construction. His hydraulic, road, sewer and drainage experience includes working on projects for Nassau County Department of Public Works, City of Glen Cove, Town of Oyster Bay, Town of Hempstead, Town of North Hempstead, & several villages in Nassau County. His water experience comes from projects for Glen Cove, Jericho, Greenlawn and Roslyn water districts. He has served as a designer and project manager for numerous projects for the above clients. Mr. Barroca has supervised planning and design of subdivisions, preparation of SPEDES permits, filings with NYSDEC, state and county agencies, major commercial and residential developments, site plans and road improvement projects for the Villages of Lynbrook, Roslyn Harbor, Roslyn, Sea Cliff and Brookville, Former Superintendent of Buildings for the Villages of Sea Cliff, Oyster Bay Cove, Muttontown, Malverne, Westbury and Centre Island. His building construction and structural experience includes projects for the Town of Oyster Bay, City of Glen Cove, and the Villages of Oyster Bay Cove, Malverne, Westbury, Muttontown and Roslyn.
